Urlaubshits

So I’m finally there – sorry its taken so long, but what with the commitments of having a job and being a perfectionist, it’s had to wait until now for new content to go up. What you will see on the front page now are five sections: Column, Blog, Mixes, Singles, and Albums.

Column
Every week I will write a piece of writing that doesn’t involve talking directly about a single or an album. This could be on anything, though it will remain within the general realm of music. What this will allow is for me to talk about stuff that isn’t necessarily about the type of music I want to talk about, but that interests (or irritates) me nonetheless. Hopefully, it’s going to be the kind of place where debates can be struck up – if you don’t agree, tell me. That’s what the internet is for after all…

Blog
This is where all the informal stuff goes – links to stuff on other sites or blogs that is of interest, announcements, exciting gigs or parties. After all, blog is short for “weblog”, that is, a collection of links to other places on the web. If you have anything of interest to share, promote, etc, let me know, but only if it relevant to the feel of the blog as a whole – if you don’t know what it is I’m doing here, and if you write to me wanting to promote your Libertines rip-off band, don’t be surprised if I don’t take any notice of you.

Mixes
This is where the Urlaubshits monthly mixes go, quite self explanatory really.

Singles
Here is where talk of recently released singles goes – I don’t want to use the word review, as I wouldn’t put stuff here if I didn’t like it (as I don’t have the time), but assume that anything talked about here is recommended in some way. You won’t get downloads of MP3s here, but you can stream one of the single’s highlights on the page. You also get links to buy the single (where possible) at the bottom.

Albums
Same as singles, but instead you will get one MP3 download from the album, at 128kb only.

So there you have it. The result is hopefully something that is enough like a traditional blog not to alienate the faithful music blog audiences, but accessible enough for anyone else. At the very least I will attempt to post at least one entry in the “Column’, “Albums” and “Singles” categories per week, one entry in the “Mixes” category per month, and entries in the “Blog” category as and when, but most likely more frequently than the others. If you have any feedback, let me know. As far as I know, the homepage doesn’t look too pretty on Internet Explorer, and I will get on to this as soon as possible, but if you’re using that then shame on you. Firefox is free, and much better.

Edit: The major IE issues should now be fixed – there are still a few CSS errors in IE, but at least the images are now visible and the sidebar isn’t underneath the main content anymore. Let me know if you encounter any glaring errors I’ve missed.
