Aeroplane’s rise over the last twelve months has been nothing less than meteroric. They have remixed more tracks than I can name, released three singles, and are readying an album for release next year. What could have been a niche act has manged to find favour among pretty much all blogs, and with the release of their debut album, they could find themselves becoming arguably the biggest thing to come out of Belgium since Soulwax. Aeroplane have rejected the “Balearic” tag, stating that they make pop music, and brilliant pop music it is too, a reason for their continued demand as remixers.
Aeroplane may have rejected the Balearic tag, and rightly so, but it’s one that Lullabies In The Dark, one half of Aeroplane, Vito de Luca, along with Jim Adam, may have a little more trouble shaking off. Their second single, Iridium, is built around a simple three chord structure with instrumentation which builds from a strummed acoustic guitar to an all out electric guitar solo, all with the sound of a hazy Mediterranean evening.
The Superpitcher remix which accompanies it takes the warm and organic quality of the original and transforms it into something altogether colder, but no less melodic than the original, making the emotional pull even greater.
