Tonight I make my way to that greatest of white elephants, London’s Millenium Dome, now the grand totem of all that is capitalist and morally bankrupt, the so renamed “O2 Arena“. However, the people behind Fabric have just opened a new superclub named “matter” (proper noun) deep within the bowels of the beast. As a venue custom built for the purpose of being a club rather than being converted from an old meat locker, I’m expecting something special. At least until the novelty wears off.
Of course I wouldn’t be going were it not for the treats being offered, and tonight sees Simian Mobile Disco curating a night that includes DJ sets from themselves, Riton, Shit Robot, and live performances from Lindstrøm and The Emperor Machine.
To celebrate, here’s an overlooked gem, an SMD reworking of The Emperor Machine’s “No Sale No I.D.” It was released back in January, but seems to have slipped under the radar somewhat. Given their mutual love of vintage synths, especially in their live set-ups, their union makes complete sense.
The Emperor Machine – No Sale No I.D. (Simian Mobile Disco Version)
This remix sees SMD take sandpaper to the smooth bass of the original and turns its relatively dreamy quality into a relentless juggernaut that practically explodes with every drumbeat. If matter’s so called “body kinetic” dancefloor is what it’s been hyped up to be, hearing stuff like this through the speakers could feel like a minor geological event. Buy the vinyl here. Simian Mobile Disco have also just done an incredible Fabriclive mix, buy that here.
