Urlaubshits

So today marks the first anniversary of Urlaubshits. I made the decision about a month ago to update this blog more regularly than I had been, and give it a bit of a redesign, mainly thanks to some kind words from someone in Australia who had happened across my blog through my Last.fm profile page. Thanks whoever you are, you were the one who made me realise that it was all worth it somehow, even when you’re not listed on the Hype Machine, which I’m not. The Hype Machine is both the mp3 blogger’s blessing and curse. In order to be listed you have to post several times a week for 2-3 months before they will consider you, which is excellent for the reader, but for the blogger this means having to post when you don’t really feel like it, or really have much to say, especially when you only have yourself to rely on. In being listed you get the benefit of hundreds more visitors, but by having to post so regularly there is always the risk that the quality will slip, compromising your integrity. I imagine it is a difficult tightrope for everyone to walk, but then I often wonder how many visitors actually read what has been written, and how many just harvest the music indiscriminately.

Anyway, to celebrate the beginning of the second year of Urlaubshits, a second year which I hope will see more frequent posting and more of the misanthropy my regular readers will have come to know and love, I present the second Urlaubshits mix. I toyed with giving it a fancy name, like Balearic Moonshine or Disco Sunrise, but decided against it because I didn’t want it to sound like a cheapo happy hour cocktail. Call it what you will – disco house, balearic, contemporary italo disco, it doesn’t really matter, all that matters is it has awesome melodies that won’t make your ears feel like they’re bleeding.
